
Troops fighting banditry in Kaduna state have killed a notorious bandit terrorizing villagers in the state’s Chikun Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs on Tuesday, the bandit was apprehended in the Kidunu area around the Eastern By-Pass within the LGA.
After an exchange of fire, one bandit was neutralized and later identified as a notorious bandit terrorizing the area. He said two AK-47 rifles, charms and amulets, a cell phone, and two motorcycles were recovered.

At least six people were killed, numerous others were injured, and several animals were rustled in a bandit attack on Tuesday afternoon on the settlements of Ruwan Godiya and Kwai in Katsina State’s Faskari Local Government Area.
Residents said the bandits, who numbered in the hundreds, stormed the communities on motorcycles between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m., while many people were still working on their farms.

The Jigawa State police command has arrested a 22-year-old man suspected of being involved in the drug trade.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect was apprehended on Monday night while on his way to one of the black spots in Auyo town, based on intelligence.

The Imo State Department of State Security said on Tuesday that a clash between a joint security team and the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, Eastern Security Network (ESN), on Sunday resulted in the death of seven suspected hoodlums.
According to a DSS official who requested anonymity, the joint security team carried out the operation in a Camp at Awo-omamma with the assistance of one of the arrested ESN members, rather than at a wedding as the youths claimed.
The Department of State Security revealed this in a statement made available to journalists while the suspect was being paraded at the command in Owerri, Imo State’s capital.

Former Kaduna State governorship aspirant has condemned the abduction and killing of a Catholic priest, Very Rev. Fr. John Mark Chietnum.
Recall that on July 16, 2022, two priests, Reverend Father John Cheitnum and Reverend Father Donatus Cleopas, were kidnapped from Yadin Gura in Kaduna State’s Lere Local Government Area.
Rev. Fr Emmanuel Uchechukwu Okolo of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, however, revealed on Tuesday that Father Chietnum was killed by his kidnappers, but Rev. Cleopas escaped from the kidnappers’ den.
According to Rev. Fr Emmanuel Uchechukwu Okolo of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, the decomposing body of the priest was discovered on Tuesday, adding that he was murdered on the same day he was abducted.

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State’s Ward 9, Orhionmwon Local Government, has escaped from his kidnappers’ den.
He was taken on Monday evening while returning to his community from his farm in Ologbo-nugu by the kidnappers, who are thought to be Fulani herdsmen and demanded a N5 million ransom from his family.

The kidnappers of the women leader of the First Baptist Church on Wetheral Road in Owerri, Imo State, who was abducted during a church service, have been apprehended.
On July 10, the victim, the wife of the General Manager of Imo Zoological Garden in Nekede, was kidnapped at the church.
It was not immediately clear whether a ransom was paid, but her kidnappers demanded N100m in exchange for her release, according to a church source.

The Airline Operators of Nigeria, AON, has called for the immediate removal of the 5% fuel surcharge collected by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, in order to avoid a backlash and total shutdown of airline operations in the country.
The airlines’ trade group lamented that the rise in aviation fuel, also known as Jet A1, has increased their operational costs by more than 130%, adding that the need to eliminate the fuel surcharge could not be overstated.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Nigeria is at moderate risk of a Marburg virus outbreak.
The NCDC made the announcement following the World Health Organization’s confirmation of an outbreak of the disease in Ghana on July 17.
Cases in Ghana were reported in two unrelated males, both of whom died from the disease.
The centre stated that it was on high alert due to Ghana’s proximity to Nigeria as well as the World Health Organization alert.

The Kano State Government confirmed on Tuesday that the state had five Cholera-related deaths, adding that very strong preventive measures had been put in place to combat the outbreak.
According to the Kano State Ministry of Health, five people have died as a result of 189 cholera cases reported in the state since April 2022
He stated that cholera is a seasonal bacterial infection of humans caused by v.cholerae, a Gram-negative bacillus.
