Kaduna: Troops Gun Down Notorious Bandit

Troops fighting banditry in Kaduna state have killed a notorious bandit terrorizing villagers in the state’s Chikun Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs on Tuesday, the bandit was apprehended in the Kidunu area around the Eastern By-Pass within the LGA.

After an exchange of fire, one bandit was neutralized and later identified as a notorious bandit terrorizing the area. He said two AK-47 rifles, charms and amulets, a cell phone, and two motorcycles were recovered.

Six killed, scores wounded as bandits attack Katsina communities

At least six people were killed, numerous others were injured, and several animals were rustled in a bandit attack on Tuesday afternoon on the settlements of Ruwan Godiya and Kwai in Katsina State’s Faskari Local Government Area.

Residents said the bandits, who numbered in the hundreds, stormed the communities on motorcycles between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m., while many people were still working on their farms.

In Jigawa, a 22-year-old notorious drug dealer was apprehended

The Jigawa State police command has arrested a 22-year-old man suspected of being involved in the drug trade.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect was apprehended on Monday night while on his way to one of the black spots in Auyo town, based on intelligence.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, exhibits included 265 wraps of dried leaves believed to be marijuana, 89 pieces of diazepam (D5), 62 pieces of BZ medicines, 12 pieces of rolling paper, and a pair of scissors.

Those killed on Sunday were ESN members – Imo DSS claims

The Imo State Department of State Security said on Tuesday that a clash between a joint security team and the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, Eastern Security Network (ESN), on Sunday resulted in the death of seven suspected hoodlums.

According to a DSS official who requested anonymity, the joint security team carried out the operation in a Camp at Awo-omamma with the assistance of one of the arrested ESN members, rather than at a wedding as the youths claimed.

The Department of State Security revealed this in a statement made available to journalists while the suspect was being paraded at the command in Owerri, Imo State’s capital.

Former Kaduna State governorship aspirant has condemned the abduction and killing of a Catholic priest, Very Rev. Fr. John Mark Chietnum.

Recall that on July 16, 2022, two priests, Reverend Father John Cheitnum and Reverend Father Donatus Cleopas, were kidnapped from Yadin Gura in Kaduna State’s Lere Local Government Area.

Rev. Fr Emmanuel Uchechukwu Okolo of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, however, revealed on Tuesday that Father Chietnum was killed by his kidnappers, but Rev. Cleopas escaped from the kidnappers’ den.

According to Rev. Fr Emmanuel Uchechukwu Okolo of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, the decomposing body of the priest was discovered on Tuesday, adding that he was murdered on the same day he was abducted.

Yorubas ready to annihilate terrorists attacking the Southwest – Gani Adams

Yoruba land’s Aare Onakakanfo has once again decried Nigeria’s insecurity, declaring that Yorubas are ready to defend themselves against terrorists.

The traditional leader warned gunmen not to put the region and its people’s will to the test in order to prevent further atrocities.

According to the traditional leader, the Southwest Security Stakeholders Group (SSSG), which includes the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and others, will now resist attacks.

This was stated by the Aare Onakakanfo on Tuesday during a visit to the Olowo of Owo kingdom.

Edo APC chieftain flees kidnappers’ den 

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State’s Ward 9, Orhionmwon Local Government, has escaped from his kidnappers’ den.

He was taken on Monday evening while returning to his community from his farm in Ologbo-nugu by the kidnappers, who are thought to be Fulani herdsmen and demanded a N5 million ransom from his family.

On Wednesday morning, the state’s publicity secretary confirmed his escape and said that he has subsequently reconnected with his family.

Imo: Kidnappers release female church leader 

The kidnappers of the women leader of the First Baptist Church on Wetheral Road in Owerri, Imo State, who was abducted during a church service, have been apprehended.

On July 10, the victim, the wife of the General Manager of Imo Zoological Garden in Nekede, was kidnapped at the church.

It was not immediately clear whether a ransom was paid, but her kidnappers demanded N100m in exchange for her release, according to a church source.

Ekiti police arrested 15 suspected armed robbers

The Ekiti State Police Command has apprehended 15 more suspected criminals in the state capital of Atikankan, Ado Ekiti.

According to the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, the suspects were apprehended on July 13 when police officers from the command raided a gang’s hideout.

According to the Commissioner of Police, the suspects confessed to being members of an armed robbery gang, illegal drug dealers, and a cult group.

Gunmen kidnap Ex-Oyo governor’s farm supervisor

A farm supervisor on the farm of a former governor of Oyo State has been kidnapped by gunmen.

On Tuesday, it was learned that the worker was abducted around 7 p.m. on Saturday by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

The kidnappers are also demanding N100 million in ransom.

At gunpoint, a Bolt cab was snatched in Calabar

On Tuesday night, gunmen stole a Toyota Corolla car registered to a bolt ride company.

According to information gathered, as the Bolt car arrived on Yellow Duke road in Calabar to pick up the customer who had called it, the waiting gunmen fired into the air, seized the car, and dragged the driver out.

Residents who attempted to foil the criminal act were scared, according to eyewitnesses.

In Abuja, a Dana plane makes an emergency landing

Tuesday afternoon, a Dana Air Boeing 737 with the registration number 5N DNA made an emergency landing as it approached an international airport in Abuja due to a problem with one of its engines.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, the incident occurred around 2:52 p.m., and the passengers were unharmed.

The pilot in command briefed the passengers on the incident before safely landing the plane at Abuja International Airport around 2:52 p.m.

Remove 5% fuel surcharge – AON

The Airline Operators of Nigeria, AON, has called for the immediate removal of the 5% fuel surcharge collected by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, in order to avoid a backlash and total shutdown of airline operations in the country.

The airlines’ trade group lamented that the rise in aviation fuel, also known as Jet A1, has increased their operational costs by more than 130%, adding that the need to eliminate the fuel surcharge could not be overstated.

Marburg virus: Nigeria at moderate risk – NCDC

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Nigeria is at moderate risk of a Marburg virus outbreak.

The NCDC made the announcement following the World Health Organization’s confirmation of an outbreak of the disease in Ghana on July 17.

Cases in Ghana were reported in two unrelated males, both of whom died from the disease.

The centre stated that it was on high alert due to Ghana’s proximity to Nigeria as well as the World Health Organization alert.

Cholera kills five in Kano

The Kano State Government confirmed on Tuesday that the state had five Cholera-related deaths, adding that very strong preventive measures had been put in place to combat the outbreak.

According to the Kano State Ministry of Health, five people have died as a result of 189 cholera cases reported in the state since April 2022

He stated that cholera is a seasonal bacterial infection of humans caused by v.cholerae, a Gram-negative bacillus.

  • From 14th to 15th July 2022, 73 new confirmed cases were recorded in Nigeria as stated on the official website of NCDC.

  • Till date, 259007 cases have been confirmed, 250485 cases have been discharged and 3,144 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory

  • The 73 new cases are reported from 4 States- Rivers (38), FCT (21), Bayelsa (13) and Kaduna (1)

 

COVID-19 Safety Measures

  1. Use of non-physical greetings.
  2. Maintain at least 2 meters (6 feet) of physical distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
  3. Stay home if you feel unwell with symptoms like fever, NCDC’s 24/7 toll-free number is 0800 970 000 0010. Do not self-medicate.
  4. Persons with a persistent cough or sneezing should stay home until they recover.
  5. Avoid crowded spaces such as open markets, crowded supermarkets and pharmacies.
  6. Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or use an alcohol-based sanitiser if no water and soap are available.

Monkeypox is a rare but potentially serious disease that is caused by infection with the monkeypox virus. Monkeypox is endemic in Nigeria

On May 26th, 2022, a monkeypox National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) was activated by the government of Nigeria in response to the risk assessment conducted, which put Nigeria at high risk for a Monkeypox outbreak.
