Gunmen kill Lagos council chairman’s aide

According to police in Lagos State, an aide to the chairman of the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area, died from gunshot wounds.

The aide was shot at a birthday party in Oshodi on Friday and died two days later, according to a police spokesperson in Lagos.

The police spokesperson added that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.

Unknown gunmen kill religious scholar in Yobe

Unknown gunmen assassinated a renowned Islamic scholar as he returned to Gashu’a town from Kano State.

According to reports, the scholar was killed around 10 p.m. Friday night after suspected assailants stopped his vehicle in Chakama village, three kilometres from Jajimaji, the headquarters of Yobe State Karasuwa Local Government Area. According to a source, the scholar was pursued by assailants who believed he was carrying a large sum of money. After gunning him down, they stabbed him with a knife, dragged his body, and dumped it under a raffia tree, according to a source.

The Yobe State Police Command spokesman confirmed the incident, noting that some suspects had been arrested in connection with the crime.

In Delta, 22-year-old suspected armed robber arrested 

Police officers assigned to the Dragon 26 and 29, who were on routine stop and search duty along the Warri/Sapele road in Delta State, apprehended a 20-year-old suspected armed robber.

He also had a locally made cut-to-size gun loaded with two live cartridges, which they recovered. The suspect was apprehended after police stopped a Volkswagen Jetta commercial vehicle transporting passengers from Sapele to Warri. According to reports, the suspect hid the gun near his private part of his body.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, the Delta State Police Command confirmed the report.

Kaduna Police arrest 20 years old with two AK-47 rifle

The Kaduna Police Command announced the arrest of a 20-year-old bandit in possession of two AK-47 rifles at Galadimawa community in the state’s Giwa local government area.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesman on Saturday, the operatives of Operation Restore Peace dislodged an identified kidnapper’s den at Galadimawa forest after engaging the bandits in a fierce gun duel. He stated that one of the arrested suspects, a 20-year-old man armed with two AK 47/49 rifles and five rounds of live ammunition, as well as handsets, was apprehended and is currently being investigated thoroughly.

The operatives, on the other hand, are currently on the trail of the fleeing suspects. The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police praised the officers’ bravery and promised to strengthen the state’s security forces’ already strong synergy and collaborative engagement.

One killed as police, army clash with bandits in Kebbi

In Kebbi State, a police tactical team collaborated with the Nigerian Army and local vigilantes to foil a bandit attack, kill one, and recover an AK47 rifle in Augie Local Government Area.

This was stated by the Kebbi police spokesperson in a statement issued on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi. He stated that the command received information on Saturday, around 3 a.m., that bandits in large numbers attacked Tiggi village in Kebbi’s Augie Local Government Area. He stated that upon receiving the report, the police tactical teams deployed in the area, along with the Army and local vigilantes, were immediately mobilised to the scene and engaged the bandits in a gun duel.

As a result, one of the bandits was killed, and many others escaped with fatal gunshot wounds. One AK-47 rifle, however, was also recovered.

Zamfara: Unknown gunmen kill NBA member

The Zamfara State chapter of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) has lamented the assassination of one of its members in Gusau, the state capital, by unknown gunmen.

This was stated in a press statement signed and issued to journalists in Gusau by the association’s state chairman.

According to reports, the gunmen attempted to kidnap him at his home in Saminaka Area, Behind Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Headquarters, Bye-pass, Gusau, but he escaped, drove his vehicle and ran to the roadside, where the gunman pursued him and shot him dead.

Security operatives foil Kidnap attempt in Kaduna 

The Kaduna State Government confirmed on Friday that security operatives foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued three people in Chikun local government’s Ungwan Madaki general area.

In a statement issued in Kaduna, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs stated that the success was achieved as a result of troops responding quickly to distress calls in the area. He claimed that when the troops arrived in the area, they engaged the bandits, forcing them to flee and abandon their victims.

He stated that while the Kaduna State Government appreciated the efforts of the operatives, the victims had been reunited with their families.

Train Attack, Abductors release 90-year-old woman

On Friday, the abductors of Kaduna-Abuja train passengers released a 90-year-old woman, her daughter, and two other people.

They were among the over 60 victims held hostage in their Forest by kidnappers since March 2022. Confirming the victims’ release, the Publisher of the Desert Herald, who is also the hostage negotiator, stated, “I can confirm that earlier on Friday, four additional victims of the train attack were released by their abductors.”

He said the four released victims came to his office not long ago to thank him for previous efforts he made to meditate on their behalf and persuade their abductors to drop threats of executing them, and to plead for all stakeholders, particularly the federal government, to step up efforts because the condition of the remaining 23 victims they left in the forest is pathetic.

Kidnapped Nasarawa Commissioner, regains freedom

Kidnapped Nasarawa State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism has regained his freedom, after spending five days in terrorists’ den.

This was confirmed by a reliable source on Friday night. Remember that the terrorists who kidnapped the Commissioner last Sunday in his hometown of Eggon demanded a ransom of N100 million to release him.

It is unclear whether the N100 million ransom was paid to the assailants before his release.

Top bandit commander set to marry young victim

A top commander of the bandits who kidnapped passengers from the Kaduna-Abuja train on March 28, 2022, is planning to marry one of the victims, Azurfa Lois John, 21.

The Desert Herald Publisher, who is also the hostage negotiator, made the revelation in a statement issued on Friday. He urged the federal government and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to act quickly to ensure the release of the train attack’s youngest victim, as was done in the case of Leah Sharibu.

According to The Publisher, This is to notify the federal government, particularly the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), that I can confirm, based on credible information at my disposal, that if immediate action is not taken to secure the release of the youngest victim of the train attack, a 21-year-old Azurfa Lois John, the abductors, as they did in the case of Leah Sharibu, are planning to marry her any moment now.

Gunmen kill one, abduct businessman, others in Imo

On Friday evening, gunmen suspected of kidnapping killed an auto mechanic and kidnapped a businessman.

The incident occurred after a U-turn on the Owerri-Okigwe Road in Owerri North Local Government Area, Imo State. According to reports, the late driver tried to manoeuvre his way through the gunmen’s presence but was shot dead at close range. After killing him, the gunmen kidnapped the three people he was transporting in a vehicle.

A businessman was kidnapped in the same area in front of his house shortly after donating cash and rappers to Obilubi women during their 2022 August meeting.

Police rescue two suspected kidnappers from angry mob

Delta State police have rescued two suspected kidnappers from an enraged mob.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, the Delta State Police Command confirmed the report. According to him, an on-the-spot investigation revealed that they were suspected kidnappers. A woman also accused the boys of kidnapping her 17-year-old son earlier that day, according to the Police Public Relations Officer.

Interrogated, the two suspects confessed to the crime and led the cops to their hideout, where the victim was rescued and is currently receiving treatment. Suspects have been apprehended, and an investigation is underway.

Gunmen abduct four Catholic reverend sisters

Gunmen kidnapped four reverend sisters of the Catholic Church in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria’s south-east.

The incident happened on Sunday morning. The abducted victims are members of the Sisters of Jesus, the Saviour Generelate, a Catholic Church religious order based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, South-South Nigeria.

The incident was revealed in a statement issued by the religious group’s Secretary-General on Sunday.

Flood kills 10 people in Adamawa

Flooding has killed ten people and displaced hundreds more in Adamawa State’s Girei Local Government Area.

Girei is located next to Yola North, and the three LGAs comprise the Yola capital city. The casualty was confirmed Friday evening by the Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA). He claimed that ten people were killed and scores were displaced in Girei town, the Girei LGA’s headquarters, and Jabi Lamba, a major settlement in the Girei LGA.

He stated that his agency has since deployed an assessment team to the affected areas to determine relief needs, and that he will seek intervention from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

Thieving teenagers saved from being lynched

Two teenagers were apprehended on Friday by traders at the popular Dugbe market in Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital.

The two teenagers were apprehended after allegedly breaking into a market shop. The teenagers who narrowly avoided being lynched by an angry mob after being apprehended claimed to be from Ibadan’s Agbokojo neighbourhood. According to sources, the teenagers who pose as scavengers routinely rob stores without being caught.

They were reportedly saved from the angry mob by Iyaganku police officers who arrived on the scene and rescued them. The state police command’s public relations officer confirmed the development

Angry mob kills alleged unrepentant robber in Ilesa

A middle-aged man died unexpectedly early Sunday morning in Osun State.

He was accused of stealing a motorcycle in Ireti Ayo, Ilesa. After being observed carting away a motorcycle, commercial motorcyclists and passersby in the community apprehended him. According to a source, the suspect stole the motorcycle from an unsuspecting commercial motorcyclist in the area late Saturday night. The source said the suspect has a history of robbery with the police in Ilesa, and other commercial motorcyclists who recognized him as a thief and were aware of his motorcycle snatching history carried him away and killed him.

He also stated that the Nigeria Police, A Division, Ayeso, Ilesa, was aware of the incident and that his body had been deposited at an Ilesa town mortuary.

Police arrest two soldiers over murder

Yobe police have arrested two soldiers in connection with the murder of an Islamic cleric.

The cleric was assassinated on Friday night near Jaji Maji in Yobe State’s Karasuwa Local Government Area.

Details of the incident would be relayed to the general public in a few days, according to the Yobe Police Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the incident. According to him, the two soldiers confessed to the crime, but the investigation is still ongoing.

Ogun, Speeding driver crashes motorcyclist to death

A commercial motorcycle rider and his passenger were killed by a speeding car on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that the incident involved three male adults. According to the FRSC spokesperson in Ogun State, two of them were killed in the crash, while the third was unharmed.

The FRSC spokesperson said the suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed, which led to loss of control as the Honda Pilot driver hit and killed the rider and his passenger,

RTA; Two die, five injured along Kasuwan-Kachia road

On Sunday, two people were killed and five others were seriously injured in a fatal car accident on the Kasuwan Magani-Kachia road.

According to an eyewitness, the accident involved a Toyota bus carrying 12 passengers and a Peugeot 504 carrying three passengers. 

She stated that the injured were taken to a hospital in Kaduna, while the two bodies were deposited at a morgue.

The Lagos State Government has issued more body cameras to Lagos Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) employees as part of efforts to improve transparency in traffic management and enforcement throughout the Lagos metropolis.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, speaking at the presentation of the gadgets at LASTMA Headquarters in Oshodi, stated that the deployment is to ensure increased credibility and confidence in the delivery of effective traffic management and enforcement duties.

He stated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has made significant investments in the acquisition of technological innovations to address the State’s transportation challenges, noting that the body camera is an initiative for accurate traffic management, among other benefits.
