Kuje Prison Attack: 64 Boko Haram terrorists escaped – Defence Minister
The Minister of Defence has confirmed the escape of 64 Boko-Haram sect members from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje.
According to a top police source, over 150 of the over 600 people have been re-arrested by a combined team of police officers and military personnel from the Guards Brigade and the Army headquarters garrison.

President Buhari pays a visit to Kuje
President Muhammadu Buhari visited the Kuje correctional facility on Wednesday, where terrorists attacked on Tuesday.
On Tuesday night, gunmen suspected of being Boko Haram fighters stormed the facility, blew up parts of it with dynamites, and freed at least 600 inmates.
However, the President paid a visit to the prison on Wednesday to assess the extent of the damage.

The ISWAP has claimed responsibility for the Kuje prison attack
The Islamic State West Africa (ISWAP) terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack on the Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja
Many of the inmates were seen fleeing the prison in a video shared by the terrorist group on Wednesday, while the terrorists chanted ‘Allahu Akbar.’
Africa, particularly the Lake Chad region, which includes the north-eastern part of Nigeria, is also fighting ISWAP terrorists who are thought to be affiliated with ISIS.

Gumi’s aide: I shared intelligence about the Kuje prison attack, but nothing was done
An aide to a popular Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, said on Wednesday that he had prior knowledge of the Kuje prison attack and shared his intelligence with security forces, but nothing was done to prevent the attack.
He also confirmed that the Kuje Correctional Centre attack was carried out and coordinated by the same group that attacked the Abuja-Kaduna bound train, as they had given indications of impending attacks.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed dissatisfaction with the way suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked the Kuje prison in the federal capital territory (FCT).
When he visited the medium security custodial center on Wednesday, the president blamed the situation on a failure of intelligence.
He also wondered how terrorists could successfully attack and escape from a security installation.

The US has asked its citizens to maintain a “high level of security” in Nigeria’s federal capital territory (FCT).
It is advised that US citizens maintain a high level of personal security awareness for the next two weeks and avoid unnecessary airport travel.
Crime is widespread in Nigeria, and it tends to increase after dark. The best defense is to avoid places and situations that increase the likelihood of being victimized. Limit nighttime activity and avoid displaying valuables.
Following an attack on a correctional facility in Kuje, FCT, the US embassy in Nigeria issued the warning.

President Muhammadu Buhari has explained why he did not cancel his trip to Senegal following the prison break in Kuje.
Buhari’s failure to attend the meeting, according to spokesman would mean that the terrorists were successful.

Air Force jet bombs innocent villagers in Katsina
An Air Force fighter jet targeting terrorists in Katsina State’s Safana Local Government Area accidentally bombed villagers.
The jet hit the wrong targets during an operation against bandit camps in the area, killing an unspecified number of villagers.
According to reports, the incident happened where the Assistant Commissioner of Police was assassinated by bandits on Tuesday.

FAAN – Domestic runways at Lagos Airport will be closed for 90 days
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced that domestic runways 18L and 36R at Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) in Lagos will be closed to allow for the installation of an airfield ground lighting system.
The organization announced that the installations would start on July 8 and be finished in 90 days. It guaranteed that the installations wouldn’t interfere with regular flight operations. In an effort to increase the effectiveness and safety of flight operations at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.

Gas explosion in Ilorin
A gas explosion triggered a fire that destroyed goods worth millions of naira in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Tuesday.
According to a spokesman for the state fire service in Ilorin on Wednesday, the fire disaster was caused by an accidental discharge from a damaged hose that suddenly burst during the gas delivery process at a gas retail shop.
Firefighters, on the other hand, were able to bring the fire under control.

Corps members rape and rob in Uyo
Gunmen stormed Corpers’ Lodge on Udo Ekong Ekwere street, off Information Drive in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State’s capital, and robbed the occupants after raping the females.
It was gathered that the hoodlums stormed the lodge on tricycles, fired shots in the air, and carted away valuables such as laptops, cell phones, and cash.
The area’s Youth Leader blamed the constant criminal activity around communities on the collapse of internal security organized by local residents.
