NPA Designates 17 Truck Parks to improve ELECTRONIC TRUCK CALL-UP SYSTEM – LAGOS

Lagos Port

The Nigeria Ports Authority, NPA, is delighted that two weeks after the launch of ETO, the electronic truck call-app, the operations validated the belief that it had eventually found a solution to the issue of road congestion on the Lagos Port Complex and the Tin Can Island Ports.

Although admitting that it has faced initial complications as can be expected from such new developments, the Authority is satisfied, however, that the issues are being resolved as they emerge and that steady improvement is being made in the process.

The statement by Ibrahim Nasiru, Assistant General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications Division, further stated: “As part of efforts to deepen the effect of ETO and make the transport of trucks more smooth, the Authority, after consulting with stakeholders, has arrived at the following categorization of truck parks as batching points for all port trucks:

The NPA statement  further reads: ‘Transporters and truck owners who do not use approved truck parks on the basis of the categorization mentioned above will be unable to enter the ports.

“While the Authority is collaborating with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council to create a more favorable climate for the activity of export cargo owners, the Authority wishes to state that truckers in this category should ensure that they complete all the paperwork needed by the Nigerian Customs Service, Terminal Operators and Shipping Lines before approaching ports. Failure to complete the paperwork would result in a denial of entry to ports.

“The Authority recognizes and appreciates the determination of the Government of the State of Lagos, under the leadership of His Excellency Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to put an end to road congestion through  enforcement.

“Management is grateful to all stakeholders and organisations for their assistance in the smooth adoption of the reform regime and requests sustained support.
