Technology trends in logistics

AMG Logistics

Technology is very important in modern-day business, and the logistics market is no exception.

In order to stay relevant and thrive, it is necessary for industries to modernize their operations and keep up with the trends in technology. They have been around for a while and are here to stay. Coordinating and harmonizing data and automation efforts will aid quicker deliveries, result in more sustainable means of transportation and subsequently lead to rapid growth in the industry.

Artificial intelligence and mobile apps are big trends in logistics technology at the moment.

Mobile apps can provide notifications of key information and generate reports that would otherwise have been tedious to pull, in order to monitor performance in real-time.

Artificial intelligence can allow automated vehicles to transport goods. While automated/ self-driving trucks may not be mainstream yet, this has the potential of becoming highly practicable in the nearest future. Artificial intelligence, also known as AI, will be able to create an accurate inventory of goods, in no time at all. AI in logistics customer support will assist businesses in reaching more consumers.

Another big trend in logistics technology is the development of blockchain-based solutions for supply chain integrity.

Blockchain technology is a decentralized ledger system that documents all changes to a record in real-time, records the motions of each shipping container, thereby increasing efficiency. This is also not entirely mainstream yet, but it is a trend that has the potential of being greatly impactful to the logistics industry.

RFID is also a major technology trend with the potential to shape logistics management. RFID is radio-frequency identification, and this technology refers to a type of tracking system that uses radiofrequency to search, identify, track, and communicate with items and people. RFID tags can store a broad range of information from serial numbers to pages of data.

Other logistic technologies are drones and robotic warehouse systems.

Robotic warehouse systems generate and transmit data that allow companies to optimize the supply chain when combined with other data sources.

These technologies aid automation, improve tracking and improve visibility throughout the supply chain. They also contribute to a rise in data and analytics in the logistics field.
