The Arakan Military Cantonment has affirmed its readiness to collaborate with the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) to safeguard lives and property around Apapa ports’ community and environs.
Col. Olusegun Opeyemi, Commander, Arakan Military Cantonment, Apapa, made the pledge when he led his officers to the NSC Headquarters on Tuesday in Lagos.
According to him, safeguarding lives and property are paramount to the military, particularly when there is a breakdown of law and order.
He said that the military was always ready to render support to the NSC to build security confidence among port users and facilitate trade.
Opeyemi encouraged the council to be free to interact and socialise with the Nigerian Army, whenever the occasion warranted it.
In his response, the Executive Secretary of NSC, Mr Pius Akutah, appreciated the visit by the military personnel.
Akutah described the military as strategic and articulate in the provision of security in Apapa port areas.
He said that the military had played a pivotal role in making Apapa and its environ, a haven for trade and commerce.
The NSC boss, who expressed delight to have the military as a neighbour, harped on the importance of the council’s continuous synergy and interaction to further strengthen the relationship.
He said the NSC management would take the offer by the military seriously to make Apapa a business haven and promote peaceful co-existence.
