Customs CG, NFIU Director General, Forge Stronger Border Security Alliance

In a move to solidify a strategic partnership to bolster border security the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adeniyi, has welcomed a delegation from the NFIU, led by Director General; Hafsat Bakari, at the Customs Headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting between Adeniyi and Bakari according to a press statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer of NCS; Abdullahi Maiwada, focused on solidifying a strategic partnership to bolster border security by intensifying efforts against smuggling, money laundering, and terrorism financing activities.

Adeniyi commended DG Bakari on her appointment and expressed the Nigeria Customs Service’s dedication to supporting the NFIU.

He proposed the establishment of a joint team to address critical issues.

“We need to form an internal team to review outstanding issues and take determined actions,” CGC Adeniyi stated.

In her remarks, DG Bakari praised the NCS’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s borders, particularly in combating smuggling. She stressed the importance of information sharing and expressed her intention to establish a cooperative relationship with the NCS for intelligence sharing.

“We recognize the NCS’s crucial role in protecting Nigeria’s borders and ensuring appropriate fees and levies are paid,” she stated.

Bakari reiterated the NFIU’s goal of ensuring Nigeria’s safety and prosperity by implementing efficient systems to detect smuggling activities
