ARMED ATTACK

BENUE STATE

-Three killed in fresh bandits/herdsmen attack on Benue community.

At least three persons were reportedly killed in a fresh attack by bandits and herdsmen in Yoyo community, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

Vanguard gathered that the attack, which took place in the early hours of yesterday, also left several persons injured while many have fled their homes for fear of being killed.

According to a source in the area, “the gunmen made up of late Gana’s men and herdsmen stormed the community at about 2 am and started shooting sporadically. Those killed were attempting
to flee when they were gunned down and several others sustained injuries.”

Chairman of Katsina-Ala LGA, Mr Alfred Atera, who confirmed the attack and the alliance between late Gana’s loyalists and the herdsmen, said: “We heard that Gana’s boys are currently
in alliance with some herdsmen to attack our villagers.

“That is what they are doing now. Late in the night, I heard that the herdsmen in alliance with Gana boys went to attack people in Yoyo and I was told that three people were killed.

“The information at our disposal is that anytime Gana boys want to attack any community, they plan it with the herdsmen, who help them carry out the attack. They invite the herdsmen
to come and cause mayhem in the land, and we learnt they are living together in the bush.

“For now, we have calmed the situation. We have combed the entire place and we are not allowing them to cluster in one place again. Anywhere that we see that they have formed a camp,
we will destroy it so as not to allow them to settle to plan attacks as they threatened.”

Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, said she was yet to receive details of the attack.

BAUCHI STATE

Bauchi auto crash claims one, injures
38 – FRSC

Yusuf Abdullahi, the Sector Commander,
Federal
Road Safety Corps
(FRSC) in Bauchi State, says that one person lost his life while 38 others were injured in a line auto crash that occurred in Bauchi on Monday.

Mr Abdullahi confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Wednesday in Bauchi.

He said that the accident, which involved a Mercedes truck, occurred at Kwanan Balma village, along the Bauchi-Kano road in Ningi Local Government Area of the state.

The Sector Commander said the accident occurred around 12:30 p.m, adding that it took the personnel of the Corps barely 10 minutes to arrive at the scene to clear the site.

He said the ill-fated vehicle belonged to the Jigawa Sunrise Transport Company, and attributed the accident to reckless driving and loss of control.

“The crash involved 86 males, one male adult died on the spot and 38 injured while 47 others escaped unscathed.

“Being an open vehicle, it flung them away as a result the fatality rate was low.

“And, luckily none of them fell onto a hard surface, the victims landed on a soft part of the road,” he said.

Mr Abdullahi said the corpse of the deceased and the wounded had been referred to the General Hospital, Ningi for identification and treatment.

He advised motorists to always observe traffic rules and regulations as well as drive with caution while plying the road. (NAN)
