In Taraba, Police arrest suspects for murder

The Taraba State police command has arrested several suspects in connection with the July 28 gruesome killing of Yukuben chiefdom’s traditional ruler.

The traditional ruler and his son were allegedly killed in an ambush by suspected militias along the Kpambo-Fikyu road in Takum Local Government Council of the State.

The police Commissioner confirmed the report on Wednesday in Jalingo, saying six suspects in connection with the killings of the traditional ruler and his son had been arrested.

Terrorists attack Police AIG convoy

Suspected terrorists attacked the convoy of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 12 with headquarters in Bauchi, injuring him and killing one of his police guards. According to reports, the AIG was on his way to Abuja from Bauchi when he was ambushed and attacked by suspected terrorists.

The incident is said to have occurred on Tuesday around 2.30pm between the Barde and Jagindi areas of Kaduna State.

According to a source at Zone 12 headquarters, AIG Audu Madaki was shot at and injured during the attack, while his Orderly was killed.

Kaduna bandits kill resident, abduct rector

Bandits are said to have kidnapped the Rector of the School of Statistics in Manchok, Kaduna State’s Kaura Local Government Area.

According to a source, the hoodlums also killed a resident during the Monday attack. Terrorists stormed the community at night, killing one person and kidnapping a lady, including the rector of the Federal School of Statistics, according to the source.

The attack comes just three weeks after two ad hoc workers in charge of mosquito net distribution were killed in the same council area.

Gunmen abduct ex-lawmaker in Anambra

Gunmen kidnapped a former Anambra State House Assembly member in the state’s Ihiala Local Government Area.

On Sunday, the former House Assembly member was kidnapped from his home. According to a family source, the former Assembly member’s son has asked some assembly members who are close to his father for financial assistance.

According to a police spokesperson who confirmed the incident, the command has launched an operation to rescue the victim and apprehend the abductors.

In Delta, police kill wanted robber, recover pistol

The Delta State Police Command has killed a suspected armed robber who was reportedly on the command’s wanted list for attacks on police officers and residents.

This was revealed in a statement issued by the state police on Wednesday. He stated that on August 2, 2022, operatives from the Rapid Response Squad were attacked by armed hoodlums while on a surveillance patrol on 74, Anwai-Illah Road in Asaba, the state capital. The operatives took cover quickly and engaged the marauders in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to flee.

One of the suspects, who had been on the command’s wanted list for involvement in numerous attacks on police officers, was shot in the ensuing gunfight. He was taken to a hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.

In Imo, Police probe killing of seven persons

On Wednesday, the Imo State Police Command announced the launch of an investigation into the Monday killings of seven people in Orogwe, Owerri West Local Government Area of the state.

After stealing a vehicle, some gunmen stormed the neighbourhood and opened fire, killing seven people and injuring six others.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson in Owerri, the state capital, the state Commissioner of Police has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the crime in order to apprehend the fleeing gunmen.

Abductors kill LAUTECH student, hotelier

Students from Ogbomoso’s Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, as well as some town youths, are currently staging a public protest.

The alleged killings of a LAUTECH Final Year Student and hotelier sparked the protest, according to reports. According to multiple sources, angry protesters protesting the alleged killing of the victims have taken over the Ogbomoso-Ilorin road.

The two victims were kidnapped on Thursday night at a hotel in the Surulere Local Government Area’s Abaa community.

NBC fines Trust TV for a bandit documentary

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) fined Trust Television Network (Trust TV) N5 million for airing the documentary “Nigeria’s Banditry: The Inside Story” on March 5, 2022.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Trust TV management stated that the fine was communicated to the media company in a letter signed by the NBC Director General.

According to the NBC Director General, the fine was imposed on Trust TV because its broadcast of the documentary violated sections of the National Broadcasting Code.

FG confirms N1.14bn donation to Niger Republic

The Federal government on Wednesday defended the clearance amidst rumors of a N1.14 billion donation to the Republic of Niger to help with the purchase of some operating cars.

The purchase was confirmed by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning while fielding questions from reporters shortly after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, argued that even though Nigerians have the right to question the rationale for such donation, President Muhammadu Buhari, who approved the purchase also has the right to make his own assessment on situations and act accordingly.

Navy announces recruitment of more personnel

On Wednesday, the Nigerian Navy announced plans to recruit more Nigerians to support its ongoing internal security and maritime operations across the country.

According to the Nigeria Navy’s Director of Information, the recruitment was part of the Chief of Naval Staff’s plans to provide the necessary manpower for naval operations.

The Nigerian Navy has made recruitment and engagement of men and women a top priority in order to build its human resources on an annual basis.

Don’t sell South-East lands to herders – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) warned people in the South-East on Wednesday not to sell their land to government and Fulani agents for alleged agricultural purposes.

According to IPOB, Fulanis buy lands in the name of agriculture but invite terrorists to invade the South-East.

SERAP to FG – Niger Republic must refund N1.4bn

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to seek a refund of N1.4 billion paid to the Niger Republic for the purchase of official vehicles.

Nigerians have expressed displeasure with this disbursement of funds in the midst of the country’s crises, such as the nearly six-month strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

On Wednesday, the Minister of Finance confirmed that the federal government had approved N1.4 billion for the supply of ten Toyota Land Cruiser V8 vehicles to the Republic of Niger.

In Benue, Police Officer accused of paedophile

A police officer is accused of raping a mentally unstable girl in Benue State’s Ogbadibo Local Government Area.

The suspect was said to have taken the 14-year-old girl into custody without the knowledge of her family or anyone else on July 11, 2022, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

A humanitarian in Benue State confirmed the incident, stating that the accused had repeatedly had carnal knowledge of the Girl at the time, after which he shaved her pubic hair with a razor blade.

Police arrest 4 officers over alleged land grabbing

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested some suspected policemen who pretended to work for senior officers in order to aid suspected land grabbers who harass, intimidate, and extort property owners in Rumuahorlu Community in the state’s Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.

On the orders of the Commissioner of Police, officers from the command’s various tactical units stormed Cedar Wood Estate on Wednesday and raided a building suspected of housing police personnel involved in the illegal operation.

Four police officers and their civilian driver were arrested and a patrol van without a plate number belonging to them was impounded.

Two suspects in Amotekun’s net for killing motorcycle rider

Men from the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as the Amotekun Corps, apprehended two men in Ondo State for murdering commercial motorcycle riders before stealing their motorcycles.

After several weeks of tracking, the corps apprehended the suspects who were involved in crimes in the Oba-Akoko axis of the state’s Akoko Southwest Local Government Area.

The Commander of Amotekun alleged that it took extra work on the part of the corps before the offenders were apprehended while displaying the suspects at the Corps’ headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure, the state capital.

In Ogun, Cultist shoots self while loading gun

In Ogun State, a suspected cultist shot himself in the arm while attempting to load and remove a live cartridge from a locally-made pistol.

According to the state’s Western Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, the pistol accidentally exploded, causing serious injuries to his left arm.

The cultist and other accomplices, who are members of Aiye Cult group, according to Ogun Amotekun Corps Commander, were at their usual meeting in a bush along Kakanfo village in Obada-Owode, Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State, when the incident occurred.

In Jigawa, Flood kills seven, destroys homes

Seven people are said to have died as a result of heavy rains in Jigawa State’s Kaugama and Kafin Hausa local government areas.

Kirikasamma council chairman revealed this during a visit to flood victims.

He stated that five people died as a result of the heavy downpour that lasted approximately twelve hours in the Kirikasamma local government area, while seven others were injured and were admitted to Hadejia general hospital for treatment.

EFCC arrests 17 suspected internet fraudsters in Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Lagos Zonal Command has arrested 17 suspected internet fraudsters in Lagos state.

The suspects were apprehended in a sting operation at Kay-Farm Estate in Lagos State’s Ishaga axis after credible intelligence on the activities of members of an Organised Cybercrime Syndicate Network involved in internet fraud.

Upon their arrest, various items such as cars, mobile devices, and laptop computers were recovered, according to reports.

Suspected armed robber apprehended in Delta

A police patrol team from the Umunede Division apprehended a suspected armed robber with a locally manufactured cut-to-size gun.

The suspect was apprehended after a hotel received a distress call reporting that a man was threatening their customers with a gun and sending them away, causing a nuisance and disturbing the public peace in the area.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, the Delta State Police Command confirmed the report.

COVID-19 Safety Measures

On May 26th, 2022, a monkeypox National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) was activated by the government of Nigeria in response to the risk assessment conducted, which put Nigeria at high risk for a Monkeypox outbreak.
