LAGOS STATE TO SHUT THIRD MAINLAND BRIDGE

Following the complaints of motorists and commuters who cried out to relevant authorities to aid them in preventing possible loss of lives and properties due to fatal accidents often experienced due to several potholes on the Third Mainland Bridge.

The Lagos State Government, through its Public Works Corporation (LPWC) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, is set to shut the Third Mainland Bridge for two consecutive Sundays, 17th and 24th, September 2023, between the hours of 07:00 and 19:00 hours
to minimize motorist inconveniences as rehabilitation works are being carried out on the bridge.

Road Diversions

The proposed works will be executed in two phases.

Scene 1, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Alapere/Ogudu axis inwards Lagos Island will be diverted towards Gbagada-Oshodi Expressway to link Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue to access Eko Bridge and Lagos Island.

Scene 2, Motorists from Lagos Mainland going through Herbert Macaulay Road (Adekunle axis) inwards Lagos Island via Third Mainland Bridge will be diverted towards Muritala Mohammed Way to use Carter Bridge to link Lagos Island.

Travel Advisory To Ensure Seamless Traffic Movement

All road users are advised to

  1. Be patient and observe traffic rules while driving on the alternative routes.
  2. Comply with the directives of the Traffic Officers.
  3. Observe road safety measures during the palliative works on the asphalt pavement of the bridge.
  4. Beware of opportunists who might take advantage of the ongoing rehabilitation to commit traffic crimes.
  5. Plan all official and non-official movements ahead of execution time.
