Lekki Port, Nigeria’s first deep-sea port, has taken delivery of two advanced pilot boats, named “PC Jalingo” and “PC Nadiya,” from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). The new vessels are set to enhance the port’s operational efficiency by facilitating the safe and smooth navigation of large vessels through its channel.
Du Ruogang, the Managing Director/CEO of Lekki Port, emphasized the significance of this delivery, noting that the arrival of the new pilot boats will boost the port’s capacity to handle increased cargo volumes. Ruogang explained that with PC Jalingo and PC Nadiya in place, Lekki Port will be better equipped to maintain safe and effective maritime operations, thereby reinforcing its standing as a critical gateway to West Africa’s trade routes.
Ruogang also pointed to this milestone as evidence of the Nigerian Ports Authority’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations under the concession agreement. He expressed deep gratitude to the NPA for its continued support since the port commenced operations in April 2023, highlighting the authority’s role in strengthening the port’s infrastructure.
Also speaking on the occasion, Mr. Yang Xixiong, Operations Manager for Lekki Port, welcomed the arrival of the pilot boats as a crucial step forward for the port’s vision of becoming West Africa’s leading maritime gateway. Xixiong stated that the new vessels will significantly improve the port’s navigational capabilities, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of ships in and out of the terminal.
“With these boats, our pilots will be able to guide vessels of various sizes more effectively, enhancing safety even under challenging weather and sea conditions. The expanded fleet means we can handle more ships in a shorter amount of time, making our operations faster and more efficient,” Xixiong added.
The delivery of the new pilot boats signals the port’s ongoing efforts to meet the demands of West Africa’s growing trade network, with both Ruogang and Xixiong expressing optimism about the future of Lekki Port’s operations as it continues to evolve into a central hub for international shipping and commerce.
