New MWUN President-General;  Francis Bunu Abi, Vows to Ensure Stability, Fairness, Growth

The newly-elected President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has vowed to bring stability, fairness, and growth to the Nigerian maritime industry.

Bunu gave the assurances while speaking on our sister platform Shipping Position Live radio programme last week, where he also emphasized the critical importance of stability within the industry to attract investors, promote business growth, and ensure the long-term prosperity of the sector.

He assured stakeholders that under his leadership, the maritime industry would continue to evolve and flourish. “The industry needs stability, not just peace or calmness. It needs to be dynamic and ready for growth,” he said.

Com. Bunu Abi further expressed his commitment to creating a conducive environment for business owners, assuring them that they would be able to “close their eyes and sleep comfortably” while doing business in the Nigerian maritime space.

His promise of creating a stable environment for businesses is expected to be a major driving force for attracting more local and international investments to the sector. “In the next four years, we will ensure that the industry keeps growing. We promise that we won’t go grey. We’ll work hard to ensure the industry moves forward and benefits everyone,” he added, reinforcing his pledge to foster the sector’s growth without compromising the industry’s needs.

The new President-General also pledged to maintain fairness and equity among all the four branches of MWUN. He made it clear that no branch would be given preferential treatment under his leadership. “All four branches will be treated equally,” he said, emphasizing that unity and fairness would be key principles in his administration.

He also made it clear that MWUN would operate as one family, with all branches working together to lift one another. “No one will be placed above another. If any branch is struggling, the others will pull together to help. We are one family, one father,” he assured.
