Nigeria Customs Service Tackles Extortion Allegations

The Nigeria Customs Service has launched investigation into allegation of extortion brought against some of its personnel on road patrol and checkpoints along the Kaduna, Kano Jigawa corridor

Area Comptroller for Kano-Jigawa area Command, Dauda said this when the Chairman of the Sabon Gari Shops Owners and Online Association brought their report before the Comptroller.

Worried by what they described as unbearable demands and extortion by some Personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service on the Kaduna, Kano and Jigawa corridor of the North west road, the Shop Owners in the popular Sabon Gari Market are here to make a formal complaint.

Its chairman, says the situation has become a norm and they want Dauda Chana to find lasting solution to the crime which precedes his coming as Comptroller

Dauda Chana who has ensured that Officers and Men remain professional at all times is not happy with the development and says heads will roll.

The comptroller went as far as making his phone number public to allow free flow of information while investigation is on.

While he urges Customs Personnel to serve the public with dignity and respect, Dauda Chana promises the traders that those culpable will not find it easy with the punitive measures set in place by the service.
