Mohammed Bello-Koko, Acting Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority

The Acting Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mohammed Bello-Koko, has assured port users of the authority’s commitment to resolving teething problems in the electronic call-up system for trucks doing business at the port as soon as possible. Bello-Koko made the pledge while speaking with truck owners and drivers at the Lilypond Terminal in Ijora on Tuesday. According to the Acting Managing Director, the visit will allow him to re-evaluate the performance of the truck call-up system three months after it was deployed, as well as engage directly with service users to understand their concerns and bottlenecks caused by their subscription to the traffic management platform. “We will ensure that the entire process is fully automated and secure to prevent counterfeiting, and priority will be given to export cargoes in line with the Federal Government’s economic diversification agenda,” he said. He also stated that NPA would continue to implement the minimum standard for trucks operating in ports. Remi Ogungbemi, President of the Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO), also spoke, saying, “We are very happy with your visit.” It demonstrates unequivocally that you are a listening and focused leader ready to address the critical issues affecting our country’s port business. We will collaborate with you because NPA’s success is also our success. We applaud the authority for providing us with this call-in system. However, the story has not been enjoyable thus far. We are optimistic that things will improve soon.”
