The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Tuesday celebrated two distinguished officers — Chief Superintendent of Customs Isah Sulaiman, the outgoing Public Relations Officer (PRO), and Deputy Comptroller Audu Samson Edime, the retiring Head of the Scanning Unit. The ceremony, held at the Officers’ Mess, drew officers, sister security agencies, and media professionals who gathered to honour the officers’ outstanding contributions, professionalism, and leadership.
Tributes Pour In for PRO Isah Sulaiman
CSC Isah Sulaiman, who assumed duty as the Command’s PRO on February 7, 2025, received heartfelt accolades from heads of sister agencies, colleagues, and journalists who described him as a model Customs officer and an exceptional image-maker.
Security representatives along the Lagos–Seme Corridor praised him as a highly trained, disciplined, and approachable professional whose leadership strengthened inter-agency relations and stakeholder collaboration. His colleagues further noted that Sulaiman consistently promoted mutual respect and communication across security formations.
Members of the media hailed him as a “journalist’s delight,” applauding his accessibility, responsiveness, and deep understanding of Customs operations. They assured him of their continued cooperation as he moves to his new posting.
‘An Embodiment of Humility’ — Comptroller Adenuga
The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Wale Adenuga, described Sulaiman as one of the finest PROs in the Service.
“I will truly miss you… If I had my way, I would cancel his transfer and make him stay with me longer,” Adenuga said, acknowledging Sulaiman’s role in stabilizing the Command and enhancing its public relations outlook.
Adenuga also expressed gratitude to officers, sister agencies, and the press whose support, he said, contributed to the Command’s improved operational output and revenue performance.
In an emotional speech, Sulaiman said he was humbled by the commendations, noting this was the first time he had been publicly celebrated by stakeholders. He credited Comptroller Adenuga for providing leadership that enabled him to excel and expressed sadness about leaving a Command he now considers home.
He thanked officers, sister agencies, and the media for their cooperation and urged them to extend the same support to his successor.
Deputy Comptroller Edime Samson Honoured as He Retires
The ceremony also celebrated the retirement of Deputy Comptroller Edime Audu Samson, the outgoing Head of the Scanning Unit. Well-wishers, officers, and partner agencies praised him for an impactful career and unwavering commitment to national service.
Speaking on behalf of NAFDAC, Seme Command Director Dr. Nurudeen Audu encouraged retiring officers to embrace retirement as a new phase of life. He urged them to stay active, explore entrepreneurship, and avoid idleness, adding that NAFDAC was ready to support retired security personnel interested in business ventures.
In response, Comptroller Adenuga announced plans to organize an entrepreneurship lecture for officers nearing retirement — to be facilitated by Dr. Audu — to help them transition smoothly into post-service life.
A fulfilled Deputy Comptroller Edime expressed gratitude to God, the Nigeria Customs Service, and his colleagues. He said he was leaving with no regrets and looked forward to investing his time in meaningful ventures.
“I will use the time on my hands to do useful things,” he assured.
A Celebration of Service, Dedication, and Legacy
The ceremony underscored the Command’s culture of honouring excellence, institutional memory, and impactful leadership. Both Sulaiman and Edime leave behind legacies of professionalism, dedication, and service — setting a standard for current and future officers within the Nigeria Customs Service.
