Educationist, Woman Abducted As Gunmen Kill Benue Guard
On Monday, 3rd July 2023, an unconfirmed number of unknown gunmen invaded Ugba community, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State around 1500 hours, shot a member of the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards dead at a checkpoint they mounted to stop the gunmen from escaping and abducted two persons after robbing customers of their valuables. The injured operative was taken to the general hospital where he had been receiving treatment while the dead has been deposited in the mortuary.

Soldiers Assault DICON Employees Protesting Non-Payment In Kaduna
Soldiers of the Nigerian Army serving in Kaduna have been accused of assaulting one of the protesters at the main entrance of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Kaduna State while chanting solidarity songs during the demonstration and carrying placards to express their grievances against the non-payment of their 2019 minimum wage arrears on Monday, 3rd July 2023 The protesters also expressed anger at the lack of enrollment into the IPPIS scheme, and full promotion arrears for 2020, 2021, and 2022, and called for the payment of their peculiar allowance to cushion the removal of fuel subsidy, among other demands.

Eight Abducted Oil Workers Regain Freedom In Lagos
On Monday, 3rd July, 2023, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the release of the Eight oil MRS oil workers, who were abducted in Sangotedo area of the state Lagos State after spending six days in the den of their abductors in the late hours of Sunday, 2nd July, 2023. The victims were reportedly in a private boat when the gunmen transferred them into another speed boat and took them away to an unknown destination. The boat which the kidnappers used was a day later recovered in Ikorodu.

Police Recover Arms, Ammunition From Kidnappers’ Hideout In Delta
On Monday, 3rd July, 2023, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of Ekpan Division, CSP Aliyu Shaba, led a search team to an uncompleted building at Agadaga Avenue, off Jakpa Road, Ekpan in the Uvwie Local Government Area of the state and recovered one AK-47 rifle with 5 magazines loaded with 161 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 1 assault rifle with 2 magazines loaded with 59 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, 2 English pump-action guns, 110 rounds of live cartridges, 1 double barrel gun, 1 single barrel gun, 1 toy gun and cutlasses.

Police Crack Syndicate That Hacks Into Bank Customers’ Accounts In Ogun
The Zone 2 Police Command headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, has cracked a syndicate that hacked into bank customers’ accounts and defrauded them of several millions of money. Already, two suspects have been arrested for the monumental fraud, while the police have declared a manhunt for other members of the syndicate. In a statement by Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO) Zone 2 Command, comprising of Lagos and Ogun states, SP Hauwa Idris Adamu, said that over 1000 victims have been defrauded by members of
the syndicate, who are scattered all over the country.

Nine Escape Death As Abuja Four-Storey Building Collapses
On Monday, 3rd July, 2023, no fewer than nine persons escaped death by a whisker when a four-storey building under construction collapsed around 4pm while workers were working at the construction site in the swampy Dape Area near the Berger Clinic, in the Lifecamp area of Abuja in the Federal Capital Territory, trapped some persons beneath the rubble. Officials of the FCT Fire Service and the National Emergency Management Agency stormed the site of the collapsed structure to commence rescue operations.

Benue Police Command Arrest 7 Suspects Over Kidnapping, Armed Robbery
The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Police Command, CP Okoro Julius, confirmed the arrest of seven suspects for kidnapping and armed robbery in Ogbadibo, Logo and Gboko Local Government Areas while briefing newsmen in his office, in Makurdi, on Tuesday, 4th July, 2023. CP Okoro said the command will not tolerate criminals who are bent on frustrating police efforts in the state. He noted that it has become a trend in the state where people who should team up with the police are busy burning houses and destroying property.

EFCC Arraigns Man For Alleged Inheritance Scam In Maiduguri
On Tuesday, 4th July, 2023, Isyaku Ibrahim was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Maiduguri Zonal Command with one count of criminal misappropriation involving N12 million before Justice Umaru Fadawu of the Borno State High Court. Ibrahim was accused of stealing three houses, two fenced lands, one of which has seven shops, two bread factories, one open land, two tanker trucks and one big installed generator, all valued at N12 million from a deceased man named Muhammad Ishiyaku and using it for his own
benefit at the expense of the deceased man’s relatives.

Katsina Police Command Confirms Burning Of It’s Patrol Vehicle, Arrests 8 Suspects
The Police in Katsina confirmed the attack on one of its patrol vehicles, resulting in its burning by some suspected miscreants. The spokesman of the Police, Assistant Superintendent, ASP Abubakar-Sadiq Aliyu, said the command also arrested eight suspects who participated in the attack on 4th July, 2023 at about 1300 hours. In a bid to escape being arrested by men of the Command’s State Motor Traffic Division, MTD, while discharging their lawful duty, a commercial motorcycle rider fell from the motorcycle which was crushed by a passing truck. He added that due to the development, some unscrupulous elements took advantage of the situation, aided his escape, and attack the police patrol
vehicle, by setting it ablaze.

Police Arrest Father, Daughter Over Ondo Imam’s Kidnap
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of three persons, Muinah Mohammed, Aisha Bello, and Isah Bello, for the abduction of a 67-year-old Muslim cleric, Alhaji Ibrahim Bodunde, the Chief Imam of Uso Community in Owo Local Government Area who was kidnapped in his farm last month and released the following day after the payment of N2 million ransom. Parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Akure, the Public Relations Officer of the state Police command, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami said the suspects were arrested following prompt action by the operatives of the command.

Gunmen Steal Landlord’s Car And Money In Oyo Community
In the early hours of Tuesday, 4th July, 2023, an unidentified number of masked gunmen numbering about seven invaded a residential house on Elebu Abese Street, in Ido Local Government Area, Oyo State around 0230 hours, and stole property including phones, N175,000 cash, 1 laptop computer and a Hummer bus belonging to the owner of the building.

Lagos Man Jailed For 14 Years For Attempted Robbery
On Tuesday, 4th July, 2023, a Lagos State High Court sitting in the Tafawa Balewa Square area of the state headed by Justice Yetunde Adesanya, sentenced a man, Temitope Olowo, to 14 years imprisonment for an attempted robbery committed on July 26, 2017, at No. 1/3, Akowonjo Street, Lagos. after a plea bargain application was made. Olowo was first arraigned on November 9, 2018, on three-count bordering on arm robbery but he pleaded not guilty.

Fire Incidents Claim Nine Lives In Kano
Statistics show that, about 9 persons lost their lives in different fire incidents that occurred in Kano state in June 2023. The spokesperson of the state fire service confirmed the development in a statement during the June, 2023 monthly review. He added that 26 persons were rescued from several fire incidents that happened and property worth N6.7m was destroyed across the state where fire outbreaks were experienced. According to Abdullahi, 22 fire emergency-related calls were received by the agency in June, four of which were false, while 18 others were rescue calls.

Security Guard Defiles 13-Year-Old Girl In Rivers
A 13-year-old girl has allegedly been defiled by a 49-year-old security guard identified as Obadiah, who works as a nightclub bouncer at Ojike Street, Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt. He asked the victim to buy him snacks, upon her return, the suspect instructed the little girl to drop the snacks in his room and immediately she stepped into his room, he locked the door, raised the volume of his radio set, and defiled her.

Tension As Police Exchange Gunfire With Ebubeagu In Imo
On Wednesday, 5th July, 2023, panic took over Imo state as officers of the Nigeria Police Force and men of the Ebubeagu Security Network engaged in an exchange of gunfire at the State Ministry of Justice Secretariat. The chaotic incident resulted in a stampede as a result of workers scampering to safety during the shooting. Scores of people were reportedly injured but nobody was shot.

Kano Police Officer Injured In Violent Clash Between Rival Thugs
While responding to the distress call, a peacemaking officer of the Nigeria Police Force was reportedly injured on the head while trying to contain a violent clash between rival groups of thugs at Rimi Market, Kano State. Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, told Channels Television that order had been restored in the area while the injured officer had received treatment for his wounds.

On Wednesday, 5th July, 2023, seven persons were arrested by the Kano State Police Command detailed to restore normalcy in the area where there was a clash involving factional groups of hoodlums at the Rimi Market area of the state. Contrary to the claim that a policeman was killed, SP Abdullahi Haruna, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, debunked the claim, confirming that the policeman only sustained injuries

Kwara NSCDC Nabs Six Railway Vandals
Operatives of the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) arrested six suspects with two 14-tyre trucks fully loaded with railway slippers at Oloru in Moro Local Government of Kwara State at midnight on Wednesday, 5th July, 2023. NSCDC state commandant Umar J. G. Mohammed, while parading the suspects, identified them as Yunusa Bello, 41, Sanni Taminu, 35, Sanusi Lawal, 25, Alhaji Makeri, 33, Lukman Sanni, 32, and Olabode Johnson, 41.

Gunmen Unleash Chaos In Ogbete Main Market
On Wednesday, 5th July, 2023, gunmen launched an attack on the Ogbete Main Market neighborhood, causing huge chaos as they fired shots indiscriminately causing market traders and commuters to flee for safety.
